Have Yourself a Jazzy Little New Year 2014
On Wednesday, December 31, 2014, cool jazz keyboardist and composer, Brian Simpson will be in concert as part of the "Have Yourself a Jazzy Little New Year" celebration in Huntsville, Alabama. In addition to being jazz giant, saxophonist Dave Koz’ music director for the past 15 years, Mr. Simpson has worked with a who’s who list in the music industry, including George Duke, Teena Marie, Janet Jackson, Kirk Whalum, and Jonathan Butler. Mr. Simpson will perform at the Huntsville Museum of Art in Spencer Hall as part of an evening of food, fellowship, and fundraising for the Jack & Annie Anderson 2nd Chance Endowed Scholarship created by Kenneth Anderson and held by the Calhoun Foundation. A portion of the proceeds will support the Scholarship stablished in honor of Anderson’s parents and their life commitment to education. Anderson was previously employed at Calhoun Community College for 16 years. Qualified students who have overcome adversity in their life and desire a second chance to earn a degree or certificate can apply for the scholarship through the Calhoun Foundation, a non-profit, 501©3 organization....

Simpson will play two sets with an all-star band including, Norris Jones, guitarist for saxophonist Boney James, Sean Michael Ray, bassist for Norman Brown, Gerald Albright and others and Stacey 'Quick' Ellis, drummer for saxophonist Kim Waters. The concert will also feature soloist Eugene Fleming, a veteran of such Broadway performances that include: "Dreamgirls," "Fosse," and "The Wiz," and winner of the 2012 Smooth Jazz Cruise talent contest, saxophonist Jazmin Ghent.
The event will take place from 8:00 pm – 1:00 am with local comedian Jeffery Johnson serving as MC and dance music played by local DJ Brian Baldwin. There will be a cash bar, party favors, a balloon drop with the countdown to the new year.
The buffet menu will include: Marinated Salad, Spicy Grilled Chicken Sliders w/Creole Mustard, Baked Tilipia over Seasoned Wild Rice, Vegetable Pasta (cold), Garlic Herb Roasted Potatoes, Assorted Cheese with Spicy Crackers, Spinach Dip w/Chips, Seasonal Fruit, Red Velvet & Key Lime Miniature Cupcakes, Pound Cake
and Fruit Tea.
Attendees may also want to take advantage of a special New Year's Eve package being offered by the Embassy Suites Hotel at the room block for Have Yourself a Jazzy Little New Year. The package is available through December 18 and can be reserved online.
Tickets are $75 (VIP) and $55 (General Admission), $100 (couples) and $500 (Reserved tables of 8) and can be purchased at the link below. Tickets purchased at the door are $60. Dress code is business attire, but formal wear will also be appropriate.
